David Wingrove's CHUNG KUO – Update

Y’know, one thing I’ve learned about the publishing industry is that whatever timetable is agreed, provisionally or otherwise, you can usually assume that rescheduling will take place somewhere along the line. As it is with the ongoing progress relating to the republication of Dave Wingrove’s Chung Kuo epic by Atlantic Books. As mentioned before, David has written a prequel to the saga which itself will be published as a larger number of books, ie each volume of the original printing will equate to about 2 volumes in this new reprint.

As DW himself says:

“What you might (say), however, is that I am working – even now – on the reworking of the final books. I’ve re-structured THE MARRIAGE OF THE LIVING DARK and it will be coming out as books 15-18 of the sequence. I’ll be adding something like 300,000 words.”

My advice? – plan ahead, buy more bookshelves!

Additional Snippet – seems that the 1st volume is due to be published in September 2010 and in total there will be 19 volumes.

Thank you very much rockitboy for these continual updates. I found David’s series just after publication of book 6 and was even half way through re-reading them when I learned here of the re-publication. I am eagerly awaiting to read what David has done. Hopefully they will come down under fairly quickly after release.

Hi – good to hear at least someone out there talking about the new book(s).

Its a tavesty that the guy hasn’t written 30 books by now and be famous the world over.

His comments on the Bob Newell website make really depressing reading for a fan… http://www.bobnewell.net/chungkuo/fallow.html

I just wonder if it isn’t all pie in the sky….can you see someone investing in re-issuing the books even as re-writes with it being a not especially successful sci-fi series? The original publishers want their backsides kicking though – the guy should be up there with modern day sci-fi greats like Peter F Hamilton.

    Couple of questions:

So the rights have gone to Atlantic now – is that confirmed?

I was under the impression he had finished the prequel already – so why hasn’t that been released?

Why hasn’t he got his own website – they can be created for peanuts and he could update us himself and that way the fans have somewhere to go and find out about what he is up to!

Anyway – fingers crossed it comes out someday!
