Some peak experiences stay with you. Like the first time I heard Ronnie James Dio sing. It was on the Rainbow album, ‘Rising’, this strong, imperative voice ringing with urgency, demanding that you pay attention. The absolute pinnacle of that album was the track ‘Stargazer’ – 34 years later it still makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck and I can feel my voice straining as I sing along. Farewell, Ronnie – you were the real deal.
