Into The Pit Of Hell!….And Out Again.

Yeah, its time to dance the PC whatthehelliswrongwiththisheapocrap Fandango! Appears that it could be the motherboard but wont know till the PC Diagnosis Guy (aka Chris) afixes his beady eye upon its unforthcoming innards. Oh joy.

UPDATE – with a change of muvverboard and cpu, and patient reinstallations etc, my machine has risen from the ashes. All seems to be working, thus far.

UPDATE 2 – almost felt I was descending into the pit of hell again, when windows meejah player absolutely refused to work, no matter what codecs I installed, or even after reinstalling the pesky thang altogether. Imagine my disbelief on discovering that, duh, I should have looked into the options of WMPlyr and changed what audio device was running it. Sigh.

    Mike,
If you need a cheap replacement PC, you could try http://www.sterlingxs.co.uk/. I am now on my second Thinkpad from them and have been very happy with the service.

Well, it has kinda stalled me today – but other family crises are playing their part too. Investigation points to motherboad or vid card – the hard drive is just fine.

Much googling abaht on Sues laptop pc last night and was able to figure out ezzactly which motherboard I have – an Asrock alivenf6g-dvi motherboard socket am2. Just need to test the vid card and the cpu to eliminate them, then figure out what to do and how much its gonna cost. Happy days…

So now the orrble truth can be told – basically need a new motherboard and cpu. Could go to the hassle of more testing and enquiring at component suppliers for discontinued mobos, but time is a-wasting so decided to bite the golden bullet and invest in a new board+cpu combo, coming in at a fairly reasonable 100 smackeroonies (and I can pick it up from the shop tomorrow, within walking distance). The new processor is an athlon and runs at 3 ghz which is good news for the games I’ll be playing after I finish the nov!
