Soothin That Ol’ Savage Breast

Music, of course. Some may have gleaned from me books’ acknowledgements pages that I am a bit of a prog fan. Totally, unequivocally true. Grew up with Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Gentle Giant, Van der Graaf Generator, Yes, Genesis, etc etc. It’s also true that I’m also very partial to the odd dose of full-on muscular heavy rock and metal – recently went (with Paisleys Prog Prophet, Graeme Fleming) to see The Cult and was pleasantly reminded of the mighty splendour of the Riff. Their best album to my mind was Beyond Good And Evil, which came out just before 9-11 and was thus semi-ignored in the ensuing media firestorm. But there is not a duff track on that album, not one.

Here’s a youtube link to the track Ashes And Ghosts -

Er, ignore the vid montage….

Hi Mike ~ just at the part in SEEDS OF EARTH where KAO CHIH has bartered some of that old “rokinrol” including BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN and DEEP PURPLE with the Voth, YOLOG. Loved it! Good to know this music is worth its weight in gold so far in the future, and loved by other sentient (be it biological or mechanical) beings. Just think – if he had an autographed copy of artwork by Roger Dean to CLOSE TO THE EDGE by YES to trade they might have been able to afford their very own STRATEGIC OFFENSIVE CONVEYOR and get some change back ;-)

And PALLAS are a good prog band too. Their new album, XXV ‘ The Sentinal Part II” leans back towards a heavier side to their music.

Glad you like that, Paul – I knew that at some point in the writing I’d have to satisfy my need for some Rawk name-dropping.
